Experience with Skype
I have had a Skype account for
years, but rarely use it. I have used it on occasion when myself or a loved one
is traveling, and it was the easiest way to communicate via video, at the time.
I looked at Skype again for this assignment. I used it from my iPhone and from
my laptop. There are features I don’t remember being there before, such as a
location feature, emoticons, an option to send a photo and even a link to
PayPal so you can send a friend money. It seemed easier to use from my laptop,
but then I think everything is easier from a laptop. The main
advantage of using Skype from my iPhone was being able to flip the screen. I
can’t do that on my computer. Skype was easy to use and set
up, other than having to reset my password. The emoticon feature did not work, but
I suspect it is because the phone on the other end was not an iPhone like I
have. I could be wrong, but everything worked other than that.
I have used a similar feature on
Facebook. The mobile app for Facebook messenger has a video feature like Skype,
where you can video or audio chat with a friend. I have used this feature with my spouse
when traveling in other countries since neither of us has an international cell
phone plan. We used this to keep in contact on these trips if we get separated.
All we need is a WiFi connection. This feature has certainly come in handy.
This blog is part of an assignment from American Military
University for my "Web 2.0 Fundamentals" class where I am to utilize
and then review Skype.
