The year 2024 was a good year, for the most part!
The best and the worst of the year both involve Hawaii.
Courtney visited in February for a few days, and brought us boxes and a clothes rack to help us prep for Hawaii.
The month of March we prepared for our long trip to Hawaii, which included getting our San Diego condo ready for renters, packing for the trip and shipping our Honda CRV. Once we got to Hawaii, we spent the first 10 days or so, setting up our condo there. March really was "March Madness".
The week before we left for Hawaii, we stayed with Georgine and Nathan. This time also included attending a wedding in Fallbrook of Matthew and Elissa, in Liz's family.
On April 11, my second "great nephew" was born to Katy and Andy in Fontana, CA
Arthur Alexander Wallin joined the family at 3.22 PM. Everyone is very proud!
March thru August we spent in Hawaii. Liz had her home office set up, and I beach hopped for the most part. The rest of the time involved a lot of pickleball and new friends we made through that. We also caught up with old friends Nancy, Casey, Cherie (their girls Sarah & Emma), Greg & Gina. We had visits from John & Bekah in May (their engagement trip), Martha (a work trip) in July, and Joe & Jeanie in August. We hopped over to Maui for a few days in late July and met up with Cheramie, and my cousin Dechen. These five months in Hawaii was truly a dream come true! Lots of beach time, the occasional hike and pickleball for us! I even found about a dozen beaches I had never been to before.
After securing down renters for our place in Hawaii, we came back home to San Diego in August, and bought a Mini Cooper. The remainder of August involved getting settled back in and re-adjusting to being home in San Diego.
We made a road trip to Laguna Beach in October for my 60th birthday. There we met up with Courtney, John, Bekah, Katy and her boys Eddie and Arthur. The weather was foggy on the beach all day, but it was fun to spend time with the family.
Courtney visited again in early November and watched the election returns with us. The election certainly disappointed. Now we have to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Late November into early December, we went to Turks & Caicos with Olivia travel. The weather did not fully cooperate, but we made the best of it. A couple of beach days, but mostly pickleball. We caught up with old acquaintances while making new friends!
There always has to be drama somewhere during the year. Hawaii had its share of drama with our renters as well as legal issues with our complex HOA, saying we did "unauthorized modifications" to our unit, which goes back to 2023. As of this writing, I am confident this will all be resolved.
The end of 2024 has us working to resolve the legal issues in Hawaii, preparing for the trip to LA for John and Bekah's wedding in January (2025) and planning for another trip to Hawaii tentatively scheduled in July (2025) for a few months.
Unfortunately, a year cannot go by without losing people that we love.
Remembering those that passed this year....
